Access Statement for Chillingham Newtown – Also known as Chillingham Newtown Farmhouse and Chillingham Newtown B&B

Located 2 miles from Chatton on an un-named road in the rural hamlet of Chillingham Newton which consists of the farm house, farm and a few cottages. There is no shop and it is not on a bus route. Chillingham Newtown is an ideal place to get away from it all and relax. With a sitting room and sun room and access to a boot room and downstairs W.C. on the ground floor and 2 bedrooms and a bathroom on the first floor. The nearest bus route is just over a mile away on the Eglingham Chillingham Road or buses stop in Chatton village 2 miles. The nearest bus station is in Wooler – 4 miles from Chillingham Newtown.  There are just a couple of local taxi firms so do not rely on being able to book one. Use of a car is advisable.  The roads in this area do not have pavements. The nearest train station is at Alnmouth/Lesbury – Known as Alnmouth Railway Station on the East Coast Line is 14 miles.  Berwick -Upon-Tweed also on the East Coast Railway line is 18miles. It takes approximately 25-30mins to drive to both.  Closest car rental is available at Cramlington and they will deliver.

Car Parking and Arrival

The gate into the farmhouse yard is 2.8m wide. Guests can park immediately outside the back door or on the driveway. It is not possible to park at the front of the house as with a lot of traditional Northumbrian farm houses the front door doesn’t have vehicular access. The parking area is tarmac in the yard and on the drive and not completely level.  There is one thresh at the back door of 5cms in height. The back door is 75cms wide. There is no inner door. We can help with luggage. There is no disabled access due to the age and nature of the building. There is a motion activated doorbell camera.

Access

On entering the building the hallway is level with a vinyl floor and rugs.  Through a step free doorway on the right of 85cms there is the boot room.  The sofas and chairs are all between 45 and 50cms from floor to seat. The room has good overhead lighting and ample pegs for coats. Next to which is the step free door to the sitting room 85cms width.  All chairs are 45 – 50cms from floor to seat pad.  The room has a fitted carpet and rugs. There is plenty of room in all rooms to access the furniture from both sides. A magnifying glass is available and there are writing pads and pens in all rooms

Breakfast is served in the sun room which is accessed from the sitting room through a doorway of 104cms. There is a thresh of 7cms. Carpeted. The sunroom has vinyl flooring and a rug. All chairs are 45 – 50 cms from floor to seat pad. There is one dining table.  All chairs are 45cms in height and 50 with the cushion pads.  We can provide chairs with or without arms.  We cater for all dietary requirements. We do need prior notice so please do let us know when you book. All crockery is mixed.

There is a downstairs W.C. for those with mobility needs. Located off the hallway through a step free narrow doorway of 70cms. The unisex toilet is 44cms in height to the top of the seat. The wash hand basin is 85cms and has turn taps.

The garden is available for our guests to enjoy. There are uneven surfaces and steps throughout with benches available during the summer months. The field only if empty of livestock is for guests to enjoy.

Bedrooms

Our bedrooms are accessed from the hallway through a latch lever doorway of 86cms up 16 carpeted steps to the first floor. There is a solid handrail on ascent on the left hand side.  Right hand side on descent. The tread width is 91cms and the tread height is 17cms. The stairs have a fitted secure carpet covering. 

Bedroom 1 – Has a flat entry doorway of 81cms. The room has a fitted carpet with 2 rugs. There is a lot of space for access on both sides. There is a sofa at the bottom of the bed. The bed is 62cms from the floor to the top of the mattress. The sofa is 40cms from the floor to the top of the seat cushion.

The access from the landing to the corridor is 83cms. Flat and carpeted.

Bedroom 2 -  Has a flat carpeted entry through a narrow door of 72cms. The bed height is 62cms from floor to the top of the mattress.. There is good access on both sides of the bed. 

The Bathroom - The floor covering is non slip vinyl. The bath height is 57cms and it is 48cms deep and the toilet height from floor to seat is 43cms. The basin is 87cms high and has turn taps. There is an electric shower above the bath. Not at the tap end. There are non slip mats provided.
